Info for Girl Talk

A bold step into the big band landscape, Girl Talk showcases Jennifer at the center of a richly orchestrated ensemble. With inventive arrangements and dynamic interplay between voice and band, the album redefines classic material with contemporary energy. It is a powerful statement of artistry, collaboration, and musical leadership.

"Vocalist Jennifer Madsen is the life of the party on this album of tunes that range from Latin, to bop to Broadway and beyond. She mixes and matches with Clipper Anderson/b, Mark Ivester/dr, Ronnie Strauss/perc, Corey Christiansen/g and a horn section of Austie Robinson-Tom Young/tp, Daniel Burt-Joe Chisholm/tb and David Halliday-Randal Clark-Candido Abeyta/sax. The horns are rich on the lush and sensuous read of “ Besame Much” and swings with all get out for the title tune. She puts on her Rat Pack outfit on the dramatic “Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home” and steps into noir alley for “Comin’ Home Baby”. Most alluring his her nocturne with Edstrom on “Misty” while a funky read of “Spinning Wheel” has her punching like a middleweight. Eager to please." (jazzweekly.com)

A contemporary interpreter of the American Songbook, Madsen honors timeless classics while reimagining them with a fresh and awe-inspiring creativity inherent to a true natural in her craft.

Her latest project, Girl Talk, is a female producer-led album that places a seasoned voice at the center of big band storytelling. Conceived and produced in collaboration with arranger Brent Edstrom and co-producer Sam Cardon, Girl Talk explores classic repertoire through rich orchestration and modern harmonic nuance. Featuring guest artists including Sean Jones, Jeff Coffin, and Ryan Keberle, the album delivers a breadth of artistry and intention.

Madsen’s discography includes Reimagine, Kick Off the Covers, and I Still Believe in Love, each marking her evolving voice and collaborative sensibility. Earlier in her career, she released Consider Me (1983), recently selected by P-Vine Records for its “Light Mellow” series, underscoring her enduring legacy across decades.

In addition to her performance career, Madsen is an educator and mentor. She has served as adjunct faculty at Snow College, working with jazz vocalists, singer-songwriters, and commercial music students. As the founder of Broadway Loft Concerts, she creates spaces that foster mentorship, community, and artistic growth.

Whether on stage, in the studio, or in the classroom, Madsen approaches jazz as living repertoire: music that continues to invite reinterpretation, dialogue, and depth. Her work persists guided by craft, emotion, and the quiet confidence of pure, artistic expression.
