Biographie Steinar Ytrehus
Steinar Ytrehus
is a Norwegian songwriter, guitarist, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He started playing guitar at 15 and began recording his own music on a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder. He has been writing and recording ever since.
Over the years, his interest in guitars and recording grew into a serious collection of guitars, microphones, recording equipment and other studio gear. Today he writes, records and produces his music in his own studio, usually playing most or all of the instruments himself.
His music moves between blues, soft rock, Americana and darker, more atmospheric territory. J.J. Cale, Mark Knopfler and Tom Waits are among his influences, but the songs are mainly about creating a mood and telling a story. Love, mystery, strange characters and the darker sides of life often find their way into the music. He likes songs that feel like small movies, where the guitars help create the landscape.
Before focusing on his own music, Ytrehus spent years making remixes and instrumentals and won several remix competitions. In 2018 he decided to concentrate on writing and releasing his own songs, including vocals and lyrics. His music has since been featured in Norwegian TV productions and on radio.
He released his debut album Dark Songs in 2020, followed by Black Coffee and Sweet Love Songs in 2022, The Tone Search Collection, Electric Confessions and The November Sessions, among other releases.
His latest album, True Stories, brings together his 11 most recent singles in one collection. Written, played, recorded and produced by Ytrehus in his own studio, the album continues his fascination with guitars, grooves, atmosphere and stories where it is sometimes hard to tell what is true and what is fiction.
