Mara Dobresco
Born in Romania, Mara Dobresco began her musical studies at the age of 6. From an early stage, her passionate playing and her subtle and elegant phrasing drew attention from the audience and the critics. She was then invited to play with most of the Philharmonic orchestras in her country. Mara Dobresco graduated from the George Enesco music academy in Bucharest (class of G. Stepan), the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris (class of Gérard Frémy) and the Geneva Conservatory. She also had the opportunity to work with leading musical figures such as Martha Argerich, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Dominique Merlet, Jean-Claude Pennetier and Theodor Paraskivesco. She has received many awards and was supported by the Yamaha, Meyer, Tarazzi and Nadia et Lili Boulanger foundations and has won several prizes in many international competitions such as the Sydney International Piano Competition, Maria Canals competition, Barcelona, Epinal, Cantù, S.Rachmaninov… Recently Mara Dobresco performed in Europe, South America, Asia, Australia as well as the United States. She also gave many chamber music concerts along with the best musicians of her generation. In France she was invited to play in numerous festivals, such as Festival d’Aix en Provence, Festival Chopin, Festival de Nohant, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Lille Piano(s) Festival, Festival ArsTerra. She is a member of the Face à Face quartet, two pianists and two percussionists who are keen players of new musical pieces. She has thus collaborated with composers such as Luciano Berio, György Kurtág, Oscar Strasnoy, Philippe Leroux and Frank Vilard. Her solo debut-recording is devoted to Robert and Clara Schumann and received unanimous praise.
