Following several years of session work and performances with artists including Incognito, Carrtoons, Reuben James, Crystal Fighters and Nubiyan Twist, Basile Petite and Drew Wynen reunite for their second collaborative EP, ‘C’est Party’, released via Root Records.

An instrumental project rooted in driving Cali-funk and neo-soul, ‘C’est Party’ drifts comfortably through hazy psychedelia, dream-pop textures and jazz-informed grooves. The EP builds on the creative world introduced on their debut ‘On s’amuse’, expanding the palette while sharpening the duo’s shared musical language.

Much of the early material was developed in real time, with ideas tested and shared via Instagram before being taken away and refined into full productions. As Basile and Drew explain, ‘C’est Party’ is the result of a year spent tinkering and refining, sometimes together, sometimes remotely, to create something that feels fresher, cleaner and more open-ended, while still tipping the hat to their influences.

Opening track ‘Prends le Guidon’ sets the tone with a restrained, downtempo glide. Dusty beats, ambient vocal touches and glistening keys combine into a laid-back, psych-leaning soundscape. ‘Buffalo’ flips the mood, bringing a sunnier, more confident energy, where squelching basslines lock into driving funk grooves, soaring guitar leads and warm chordal layers built for movement.

Elsewhere, ‘Swimming Poule’ and ‘Soufflé Au Pomme’ lean into the duo’s playful side. ‘Swimming Poule’ blends noir-tinged atmospheres with Voodoo-era D’Angelo attitude, short, sweet and heavy on feel. ‘Soufflé Au Pomme’ turns things up further, with thick bass, Hammond organ pushed hard, brass flourishes and guitar lines nodding to Benson and Hunter, all slow-cooked into a rich, feel-good groove.

‘C’est Party’ is a confident, joyful collection from two musicians deeply embedded in the modern soul and jazz scene, balancing craft and looseness, funk and finesse, with a clear sense of fun running throughout.
