With compositions by pianist Sondre Moshagen as their foundation, this young trio presents deeply instinctive and focused interplay with dazzling energy and inventiveness. Their music draws inspiration from classical impressionism, pop, and expressive jazz, shifting between minimalist collective passages that highlight texture and timbre, and explosive solo sections.

The Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio — featuring bassist Kertu Aer and drummer Steinar Heide Bø — met at the jazz program in Trondheim in autumn, 2022. Following their participation in last year’s Jazzintro launch program, the trio was named winner of the "Årets unge jazzmusikere 2024" (Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2024), and, as part of the award, will appear at several major festivals throughout the year.

In the jury’s citation, the trio was praised for their “clear and compelling group chemistry,” as well as their “strong individual voices, marked by finesse and maturity.” The compositions were described as “top-tier, with rhythmic authority that opens up vast musical spaces.” Their melodic and harmonic ideas give them a distinctive identity, leading to moments of striking beauty. The trio’s confidence and presence are contagious, drawing the audience in and leaving you curious to hear more.

With its origins in pianist Sondre Moshagen's compositions, this young trio presents a sparkling, energetic and listening interaction!

The music draws inspiration from classical impressionism, pop and expressive jazz music, and moves between minimalist collective lines where texture and timbre are in focus, to explosive solo parts.

Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio, with bassist Kertu Aer and drummer Steinar Heide Bo, met at the jazz line in Trondheim in the fall of 2022. After last year's edition of the launch program Jazzintro, the trio was named Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2024, and as part of the launch will be on view at a number of this year's festivals.
