Jack Brymer zählt zu den bedeutendsten Klarinettisten Grossbritanniens (und darüber hinaus) des 20. Jahrhunderts und ist vor allem durch seine Orchester- und Konzertaufnahmen bekannt. Weniger bekannt sind seine Kammermusikaufnahmen mit Klavier, darunter ein 1973 für Nimbus entstandenes Recital. Im Mittelpunkt der ersten Aufnahme stehen drei Werke, die zu den Kernstücken von Brymers Repertoire gehörten: das Grand Duo Concertant" von Carl Maria von Weber und die beiden Klarinettensonaten op. 120 von Johannes Brahms. Das ursprünglich 1979 veröffentlichte album erscheint hier erstmals überhaupt in neuer Form. Ergänzt wird die Edition durch eine zweite Aufnahme des Duos aus dem Jahr 1992 mit der "Arpeggione"-Sonate D. 821 von Franz Schubert, den "Fantasiestücken" op. 73 von Robert Schumann, den "Characteristic Pieces" von William Hurlstone sowie der Klarinettensonate op. 129 von Charles Villiers Stanford.

Jack's work is extensively documented, both as an exceptional orchestral pianist and as a concerto soloist. He also conducted the London Wind Soloists for Decca in the 1960s, notably for the five-disc vinyl set of Mozart's complete works for wind instruments (1963). In contrast, very few recordings of his piano recitals exist, apart from one vinyl record on the Discourses label and the Nimbus album recorded in October 1973 and released in 1979. This recital included two major works from Brymer's repertoire, one or both of which were staples in almost all his concerts: Weber's "Grand Duo Concertant" and Brahms's Sonata in F minor. The vinyl record remained in the catalog until Nimbus ceased vinyl production in the early 1980s. This edition is the first reissue, across all formats. The session notes indicate that the two days of recording proceeded without incident. They include ideas for future projects, citing works by Schubert, Brahms, Poulenc, and Hindemith, but no follow-up visits took place at that time.
