US-Singer/Songwriter Tyler Ramsey, der einstige Leadgitarrist und Co-Songwriter von Band of Horses, hat vor wenigen Tagen sein neues Album angekündigt: For The Morning heißt der neue Solo-Longplayer, der am 5. April bei Fantasy Records erscheint. Laut eigener Aussage inspiriert von der überwältigenden Naturszenerie, die sein Haus in den Bergen bei Asheville, North Carolina, umgibt, verbindet Ramsey Rock-, Country- und Folk-Elemente auf der LP zu seinem ganz eigenen Roots-Sound. Mit „A Dream Of Home“ hat er dem Album schon eine erste sehnsüchtige Leadsingle vorausgeschickt.

„Dieses Album ist in einer Phase entstanden, in der sich in meinem Leben alles verändert hat“, erzählt Ramsey. „Meine Tochter kam zur Welt, wir sind aufs Land gezogen, und dazu diese Einsicht, dass ich einfach einen ganz anderen Weg einschlagen musste in meinem Leben als Musiker und Songschreiber. Ich habe versucht, den Ausschnitten des Musikerlebens, immer auf Tour, auch Eindrücke des sehr viel verwurzelteren Lebens gegenüberzustellen, das in meinem neuen Zuhause auf mich wartet. Dort nämlich verbringe ich beispielsweise auch viel Zeit mit Wandern in den Bergen.“

In seine neue Heimat entführt For The Morning, komplett geschrieben und produziert von Ramsey, die Zuhörer, indem er auf seinem Instrument vorwiegend auf Fingerpicking und zudem auf Klavier-Aufnahmen setzt und über diesem Fundament Pedal-Steel-Passagen und seinen wunderbar unaufgeregten Gesang ausbreitet. Die Aufnahmen machte er zusammen mit Toningenieur Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Ray LaMontagne, Joan Shelley, Strand of Oaks) und Seth Kauffman von Floating Action (zudem Tourmusiker für Jim James, Ray LaMontagne) in den La La Land Studios in Louisville, Kentucky. Zu den Albumgästen zählen Joan Shelley, Thad Cockrell und Molly Parden, die in mehreren Fällen Hintergrundgesänge beisteuern, sowie die Gitarristen Russ Paul (Pedal Steel), Nathan Salsburg und Gareth Liddiard (The Drones).

Die Single „A Dream Of Home“, eines von vielen Highlights des Albums, entstand während Ramsey mit Band of Horses auf Tour war: An einem Ruhetag zog er sich allein ins Hotel bei Nashville zurück und schrieb darüber, wie doch die Kirschen im Garten des Nachbarn immer die Süßeren zu sein scheinen; konkret war es die Frage, ob der Traum eines jeden Musikers, die Welt zu bereisen und vor riesigem Publikum zu spielen, wirklich das war, was sich alle davon versprechen. Das packende Kernstück „Breaking A Heart“ besticht mit einem Wechselspiel aus Klavier und Gitarre, während Ramseys Gesang darüber wie ein Nebelschleier hängt. „Evening Country“ hingegen ist eine Art Country-Update zu dem Song „Evening Kitchen“, den er für das Grammy-nominierte Band of Horses-Album Infinite Arms komponierte, und der jetzt mit neuen Harmonien und Pedal-Steel-Parts daherkommt.

Um das neue Album live zu präsentieren, wird Tyler Ramsey auch in diesem Jahr wenig zu Hause sein; Tourabstecher sind u.a. in Nordamerika, UK und Europa geplant. In Deutschland macht der US-Amerikaner, der zwischen 2005 und 2011 bereits drei Soloalben vorgelegt hat, am 26. Mai Halt, wenn er ein Exklusivkonzert im Berliner Silent Green spielt.

attacks the canvas. Fear and love compete in every piece of Tyler's collection. Each piece is only complete once Tyler catches a moment of that battle. Tyler's unique technique can be described as aggressive, impulsive, and stubborn. The goal is clearly to attack the feeling before it stops moving. Tyler vigorously and generously applies paint with his hands or directly from their containers. He happiest using unlimited amounts of paint and enjoys feeding each canvas all they can devour. So far, Tyler chooses to tell his story without being distracted by using brushes, extraneous thinners, or thinners.

Tyler Ramsey has never owned a paintbrush. Using his fingers to move through the process of painting, Ramsey has created his own approach to the art form, using seemingly contradicting concepts. Bold colors depict somber themes. Impulsive shapes reveal thoughtful concept. Unencumbered strokes compelled to stay within the canvas' borders. It is through this controlled chaos that Ramsey shares his life stories.

The expressive nature of Ramsey's work is deeply rooted in the emotional journey of his own personal development. Painting first provided an escape but developed into a passion. Painting is not simply an outlet for his emotions. It is a constant challenge to make a passionate statement about innovation, limitless potential, and inspiration. Surviving the tragedies and reckless behavior of Ramsey's past paved way for the opportunity to openly and honestly express more through his art.

Ramsey's contribution to painting is a fresh perspective on the art form while acknowledging its rich history. Using his hands to mold thick layers of oils he brings to life powerful creations on canvas. The paintings continue to develop on their own as they move through the aging process, drying to become fine pieces of work ready to be consumed. He aspires to breakdown the barriers that hinder people from enjoying abstract artwork.
