Four years in the making, the celebrated Beethoven Journey has now reached its crowning season. An intense collaborative project between Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the heart of the journey has been the recording of all five of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerti and his Choral Fantasy.

Over the four years Leif Ove Andsnes has also made Beethoven’s concerti the focus of his attention on stage with over 150 performances in 55 cities and 22 countries. With the start of the 2014 / 15 season Andsnes and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra embark on a year of high-profile residencies that will see them perform the complete cycle of concerti in Hamburg, Bonn, Lucerne, Vienna, Paris, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and London (full performance listings below). A third and integral part of the Beethoven Journey is an ambitious education project series entitled Feel the Music that gives children with hearing impairment the chance to experience music both in personal workshops and on the concert platform together with Andsnes and the orchestra.

Er spielt in den international führenden Konzerthäusern und mit namhaften Orchestern, etwa in Chicago, Cleveland und Philadelphia, mit dem Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, dem Gewandhausorchester Leipzig sowie dem London Symphony Orchestra. Beim Deutschen Symphonie-Orchester Berlin war der Pianist bereits mehrfach zu Gast, u. a. 2018 mit Brittens Klavierkonzert. 2022 wird er unter der Leitung von Chefdirigent Robin TIcciati Schumanns Klavierkonzert interpretieren und anschließend mit dem DSO auf Jubiläumstournee gehen.

Nach dem erfolgreichen vierjährigen Konzert-Zyklus ›The Beethoven Journey‹ mit insgesamt 230 Konzerten in 108 Städten und 27 Ländern, aus dem drei preisgekrönte CD-Produktionen und ein Film hervorgingen, haben sich Leif Ove Andsnes und das Mahler Chamber Orchestra für das mehrjährige ›Mozart Momentum 1785/86‹ zusammengefunden.

Neben vielen in Live-Streams übertragenen Konzerten in der Saison 2019/2020 spielte Leif Ove Andsnes im Juni 2020 mit den Bergener Philharmonikern unter der Leitung von Edward Gardner das erste Konzert mit Publikum in Norwegen nach dem Lockdown.

Als begeisterter Kammermusiker war Leif Ove Andsnes fast zwei Jahrzehnte lang einer der künstlerischen Leiter des norwegischen Kammermusikfestivals von Risør und 2012 musikalischer Leiter des Ojai Music Festival in Kalifornien. Im Sommer 2016 gründete er ein eigenes Kammermusikfestival im norwegischen Rosendal. Zu seinen engen musikalischen Partnern gehören der Sänger Matthias Goerne und der Pianist Marc-André Hamelin. Mit Christian Tetzlaff, Tabea Zimmermann und Clemens Hagen bildet Leif Ove Andsnes eine erfolgreiche Quartett-Formation.

Die Diskografie von Leif Ove Andsnes fasst weit mehr als 30 Einspielungen mit Solowerken, Kammermusik und Konzerten aus einem Repertoire, das von Bach bis zur Gegenwart reicht. Der Pianist wurde für acht Grammy Awards nominiert und gewann viele internationale Preise, darunter sechs Gramophone Awards.

Der Pianist ist Träger der angesehensten Auszeichnung Norwegens, des Sankt-Olav-Ordens, im Rang eines Kommandeurs. Zu den zahlreichen Auszeichnungen für seine künstlerischen Leistungen gehört der prestigeträchtige Peer-Gynt-Preis, der Instrumentalist Award der Royal Philharmonic Society und der Gilmore Artist Award.
