Info zu My Old Man (Remastered)
"My Old Man" is the debut album by Bob Hughes, recorded with contributions from Ron Turner and Carmine ‘Chic’ Cinque, among others. The material combines elements of folk and singer-songwriter styles, with themes of relationships, personal experiences, and reflections on family and upbringing.
Privately issued in the UK in 1976 and recorded in a single twelve-hour session at Spaceward Studios, Bob Hughes’ ‘My Old Man’ is one of the lost treasures of British folk’s DIY underground. Marking its 50th anniversary in 2026, the album captures this poet, singer-songwriter, and behavioural scholar at his creative peak - delivering intimate, melancholic folk and folk-rock songs that tackle social conflict, historical memory, and deeply personal narratives. A defining UK private-press rarity and among the rarest and most valuable folk records of its era (less than 100 original copies in existence). This reissue has been sought after for decades by underground private-press collectors.

Bob Hughes
was born in 1944 in Haverhill, Suffolk. By the ’70s he was performing locally, joining Maggie’s Farm, and recording with Hooknorton. He self-released 'My Old Man' and, as Bob Hughes Band, 'The Kids Are Alright!', albums of warm, personal songs that quietly gained admiration. He kept recording into the ’90s and passed away in 2022.
