Info zu June

The trio's fourth album, JUNE opens up to renewal and the inclusion of new languages, as the result of the group members' decades of experience in the field of improvised music and electronic sounds, which are here rendered in a completely acoustic dimension and supported exclusively by piano, double bass and drums.

JUNE thus stands as a recording that honours the rich tradition of the jazz piano trio while firmly situating itself in the contemporary music scene through modern inspirations and sounds. The album features nine original compositions alongside two reinterpreted repertoire pieces, Alfonsina y el Mar and Continuum, which have been reworked and rearranged by the trio.

"Gabriele Pezzoli's trio is something special. Lights off, and listen." (JazzThings)

Gabriele Pezzoli
lives in Locarno, in Southern Switzerland, and is a musician with wide-ranging interests. Pianist, composer, producer and teacher, he is co-founder of the collective BLUE2147 and active in several projects that cross the boundaries between jazz, improvisation and present-day music.

He has performed in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Estonia and Madagascar, playing at international clubs and festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Athens Jazz Festival, Estival Jazz and Piano City Milano. He has collaborated with French harmonica player Olivier Ker Ourio, Norwegian future-jazz pioneer trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær, Italian saxophonist Tino Tracanna and with relevant musicians from the Swiss, Italian and European scene, including Max De Aloe, Taavo Remmel, Kadri Voorand, Nils Wogram, Manu Gesseney, Domenic Landolf, Reto Suhner, Sara Oswald, the 'q3' collective, Nolan Quinn and Kety Fusco among many others.

For more than two decades, he has been active with his own piano trio, with the Lausanne-based double bass player Cédric Gysler and the Swiss-American drummer Brian Quinn.

Gabriele Pezzoli Trio
The birth of the Gabriele Pezzoli Trio dates back to the early 2000s in Lausanne, Switzerland, where pianist Gabriele Pezzoli was studying at the local jazz school. Their international debut came in 2006 with the release of its first album, Improvviso, followed by a second album in 2009, Rendez-Vous, both released by the TCB record label in Montreux. The albums received excellent reviews from the music press and led the trio to a regular concert schedule in Switzerland and performances in Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Finland, Estonia, Greece and Madagascar. In 2015, the third album, Viljandi, received a nomination from the French portal Citizen Jazz and led the three musicians to experiment with new soundscapes and interplay possibilities.

The Gabriele Pezzoli Trio's repertoire consists mainly of original compositions and is completed by selected pieces from the contemporary jazz repertoire, performed and rearranged according to the vision that has forged the sound of the combo since its beginnings: ensemble cohesion and ample space for individual expression of each player. The ensemble will release their fourth album ‘JUNE’ in early 2025.
