Info zu Jacques-François Gallay: Chamber Music for Natural Horn Ensemble
Following on from the first volume of works by Jacques-François Gallay (1795-1864) – Préludes, Caprices & Fantasies (RES10114) – natural hornist Anneke Scott is joined by Joseph Walters, Jorge Renteria-Campos and Martin Lawrence to present chamber works for natural horn ensemble from the same composer.
Collectively known as Les Chevaliers de Saint Hubert, this superb group of renowned hornists present the rarely-heard and endlessly inventive Trois grands trios pour trois cors en Mi, Op. 24 and the Grand Quatuor pour quatre cors en différent tons, Op. 26.
“In Anneke Scott we have a ”natural“ horn player in more ways than one. On an instrument which is perilous at the best of times her technique is such that one is aware only of intellect, musicianship and a glorious pallet of sound. It is a joy to work with her.” (Pavlo Beznosiuk).

Les Chevaliers de Saint Hubert
Formed in 2011, initially to record Gallay’s Grand Quatuor, the musicians of Les Chevaliers de Saint Hubert comprise four of the leading period horn players in Europe. The four, frequently to be found working together as the horn section of ensembles such as the Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, The Kings Consort or the Australian Chamber Orchestra, specalise in performing on historical horns. These instruments range from the earliest baroque horns and cor de chasse, the
wonderful colourful classical and romantic era hand horns, through to the many varieties of early valve instruments that flourished in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries before the establishment of what today’s audiences would recognise as the modern horn.
