The Gran Duo Italiano
composed of violinist Mauro Tortorelli and pianist Angela Meluso, was awarded the Mediterranean Prize in 2011 by the highest authorities of the European Union for their work in musicological research, rediscovery, and valorization of the Italian artistic and musical heritage. As ambassadors of Italian music around the world, they have performed in over 20 countries over the past ten years, performing in the most prestigious concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Munetsugu Hall in Nagoya, the Kiev Philharmonic, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Gasteig in Munich, Timisoara Philharmonic, Ilshin Hall in Seoul, Y Theater in Hong Kong, and more.

He boasts world premiere recordings of music by Gaetano Fusella, Camillo Sivori (Paganini's only pupil), Rosario Scalero (Sivori's pupil), Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco (triple CD Brilliant Classics), Francesco Santoliquido, C. Saint-Saens, D. Milhaud, O. Sevcik and L.
