Adam Porębski
was born in 1990. In 2014 he completed his master’s studies in composition with Krystian Kiełb (with distinction and the Honorary Diploma Primus Inter Pares) and in violin playing with Jarosław Pietrzak and Małgorzata Kogu-Ślanda at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. In 2016 he obtained a PhD in musical arts. He supplemented his education within the International Course for Composers SYNTHETIS in Radziejowice (2014 and 2015), 22nd Young Composers Meeting in Apeldoorn (2016) and Latvian National Symphony Orchestra International Workshop For Young Composers in Rēzekne (2019).

He has got a lot of prizes in polish and international composition competitions, e.g.: 1st prize in the Fourth Witold Szalonek Composition Competition of the Silesian Rostrum of Composers in Katowice for Archaikum for chamber string orchestra (2009), 3rd prize in the Grzegorz Fitelberg Polish National Competition for Composers in Katowice for Unireum for large symphony orchestra (2011), 2nd prize in the Krzysztof Penderecki International Composers’ Competition ARBORETUM in Radom for …Stretched for strings (2012), Honorary Appreciation in the International Competition GENERACE in Ostrava for String quartet (2013) and twice Honourable mention at the Tadeusz Ochlewski Composers’ Competition in Krakow – in the 10th competition for Semi-overture for string orchestra (2012), and in the 12th competition for Kolby for small symphony orchestra (2014).

He has received scholarships granted by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2010-2012), the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (2012-2014), the Mayor of City Wrocław (2010-2014), the Authors’ Association ZAiKS (2014 and 2017). Additionally, he was honored for his outstanding achievements with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Award for students of artistic educational institutions (2012), he was laureate of Student’s Nobel Prize Competition (2014) and Młoda Polska Scholarship (2015). He is a member of the Polish Society of Contemporary Music and the Polish Composers’ Union (where in the Wrocław Branch he is the Treasurer). Many of his compositions have been incorporated as the obligatory pieces into polish and international performance competitions, were recorded (e.g. Orchid Classics, DUX czy Requiem Records label), published (e.g. PWM, Publishing House of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, Publishing House of the Academy of Music in Poznań) and broadcasted by Polish and foreign radio stations.

His composition were performed by such orchestras and ensembles as Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven Academy Orchestra, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra Amadeus, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Orkest de ereprijs, Sound Factory Orchestra, Hashtag Ensemble, Nordlys Ensemble, Kwadrofonik, Fama Q, Duo van Vliet and others in many European countries, among others in Poland (the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw, Concert Hall NOSPR in Katowice, National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Centennial Hall in Wrocław, Adam Mickiewicz University Hall in Poznań, The Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź, The Oscar Kolberg Philharmonic in Kielce), Germany, Great Britain, Denmark, Estonia, Serbia, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia and Australia (Sydney Opera House) and USA (Boston, New York) at such festivals as ISCM World Music Days 2019 in Tallin, Warsaw Autumn, Musica Polonica Nova and Musica Electronica Nova in Wrocław, Warsaw Music Encounters, AudioStage in Warsaw, Poznań Music Spring, Silesian Rostrum of Composers in Katowice, Janacek May in Ostrava, Świętokrzyskie Music Days in Kielce, Musica Moderna in Łódź, New Waves in Gdańsk, Christopher’s Summer Festival in Vilnius.

Adam Porębski’s output contains over 60 compositions and includes various genres and forms of instrumental, vocal, vocal-instrumental, electroacoustic music and music for theater plays. Even before starting his studies, in March 2009 he made his debut as a composer on the Wrocław Philharmonic stage with the piece Contrafluctum for symphony orchestra. Two months later he received the 1st Prize at the National Composers’ Competition Opole’2009 for the piece Varianti for violin and piano. In 2013 during the Great Anniversary Concert on the occasion of the official opening of the new concert hall in Academy of Music in Wrocław his piece Hierophonos F-E-C-H was performed by the Symphony Orchestra under the button of Marek Pijarowski. As part of the European Capital of Culture 2016 in Wrocław, Adam Porębski composed music for one of the four parts of the Wrocław Cantata for choir and symphony orchestra – an outdoor multimedia show that was watched live by about 50,000 viewers. In 2019, his piece Semi-overture for string orchestra was qualified by an international jury and performed in 2019 during the World Music Days in Estonia organized by the International Society for Contemporary Music. Adam Porębski was also a laureate of the 3rd Edition of the Music of Our Times Program, organized by the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music.
