Antonello Losacco Trio
Biographie Antonello Losacco Trio
Antonello Losacco
Born in 1990, he began his musical journey studying classical guitar, later moving on to the electric bass, double bass, and finally the piano. Over the years, he has gained extensive experience across a variety of musical styles and settings—ranging from rock, pop, and classical to funk—with a primary focus on jazz and original music.
He graduated with honors and a special mention from the Piccinni Conservatory in Bari, holding degrees in Jazz Double Bass and a Master’s-level (Level II) degree in Jazz Music. He also completed a three-year undergraduate program in Jazz Piano and is currently pursuing Master’s-level (Level II) degrees in Electric Bass and Jazz Composition.
His training includes participation in the Siena Jazz international summer seminars and Barry Harris’s seminars in Rome, as well as numerous masterclasses and lessons with international artists and educators—such as V. Mendoza, G. Bergonzi, D. Deidda, and many others. In 2018, he spent a period of study and professional development in New York.
His technical, timbral, and harmonic exploration of 6- and 7-string basses led him to become a co-designer and endorser for instruments and specific product lines crafted by luthier P. Lodato (Chitarre Lodato) since 2014; he also experiments with custom-built double basses.
In 2019, he gained national recognition by winning the first prize at the “Un basso in rilievo” – Stefano Cerri Memorial competition for bassists, held by Area-M in Milan.
Following two releases as a co-leader (with the projects *Tesoro di Carta* and *JAQ*), he released his debut solo album, *Respira – Antonello Losacco with strings* (GleAM Records), in May 2022. This entirely original album highlights his skills as a composer and arranger—in addition to his work as a bassist—featuring an ensemble that includes a string quartet, piano, 6- and 7-string bass, and double bass. In May 2023, he presented the album *Respira* in New York City, collaborating with an international string quartet and saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter.
The album was very well received by specialized music critics (including *Jazz Journal*, *Jazzit*, and *All About Jazz*) and has been featured on radio playlists and various streaming platforms.
In 2023, he formed a trio under his own name, featuring two young, highly talented Italian jazz musicians: Vitantonio Gasparro on vibraphone and keyboards, and Vito Tenzone on drums. The trio focuses on developing a unique sound through a careful balance of timbres, dedicated exclusively to original compositions—it is currently the only ensemble in the world that combines a 7-string bass with vibraphone and drums.
In July 2023, he won the “Puglia Sounds Record” grant for his original recording project *Worlds Beyond*, released by GleAM Records and featuring contributions from saxophonist Roberto Ottaviano and singer Badrya Razem.
In 2024, he was invited to perform at the Medimex International Festival, where he collaborated with producer and sound engineer Marc Urselli (a three-time Grammy Award winner).
The trio performs at festivals, concert series, clubs, and theaters; following their first tour—which spanned Italy and Germany—they recorded the live album *Antonello Losacco Trio – Live in Berlin* (Angapp, 2025). In July 2025, Losacco won the “All You Have to Do Is Play” competition, organized by the record label Emme Record Label.
He produced his third album with his trio, titled *That Impossible Color* (Emme Record Label), which marked the beginning of a collaboration with saxophonist Michael Rosen.
Active as an arranger, he has worked with Metropolitan Music Art and the MaximaOrchestra (with his arrangements performed by artists such as Sarah Jane Morris, Vince Tempera, and Mario Rosini).
He is deeply committed to music education and outreach; he authored *Smartjazz – Il manuale dello studente di musica jazz* (Four Edizioni, 2017) and *Il manuale di tecnica per basso elettrico* (YCP, 2023).
He has toured with New York-based saxophonist Eric Wyatt (godson of Sonny Rollins) and participated in the *L&L NY Connection* project alongside New York saxophonist Jed Levy.
In high demand as both a bass guitarist and double bassist, he collaborates with numerous musicians across the Italian music scene. His professional associations include work with Mogol, Bobby Watson, Mark Sherman, Sarah Jane Morris, Flavio Boltro, Michael Rosen, Alessandro Di Liberto, Roberto Ottaviano, Yuying Hsu, Giovanni Falzone, Lorenzo Cominoli, Greta Panettieri, Charlie Apicella, Tina Raymond, Mario Rosini, Ana Flora, Bruno Montrone, and many others. “His handling of compositional material is marked by an attention to detail, a focus on the color dictated by the instrumentation, and the creation of structures that are anything but predictable (…) He demonstrates a clear vision and a distinct signature—characterized by melodic quality and a poetic sense of suspension—rooted in a blend of ‘imaginary folklore’ and the dreamlike, fairy-tale quality often found in a certain style of singer-songwriter music.
Through his determination, meticulous research, and ability to marry emotional impact with unpredictability, Antonello carves out a place for himself within a highly distinguished circle—one occupied by artists who have been active for decades.” Roberto Ottaviano – Musicis
