Christoph Graupner hatte fünf Jahre als Opernkomponist in Hamburg verbracht, bevor Landgraf Ernst-Ludwig ihn 1709 berief, die Position des Hofkapellmeisters in Darmstadt zu übernehmen. Er wurde zum bestbezahlten Kapellmeister seiner Zeit und prägte bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1760 den Musikstil des Darmstädter Hofes. Seine relative Isolation dort ermöglichte es ihm offenbar, einen persönlichen Stil zu entwickeln, der nicht ganz den Normen entspricht, die in den vergangenen Jahrhunderten durch die Rezeption von Bachs monumentalem Werk entstanden sind. Die nur langsame Wiederentdeckung von Graupners Werk trug ebenfalls dazu bei, dass er in dem musikalischen Bild, das wir heute von dieser Epoche haben, nicht enthalten ist. Dieses Album präsentiert eine abwechslungsreiche Auswahl von Graupners musikalischem Schaffen während seiner fast fünfzigjährigen Tätigkeit in Darmstadt – wir hoffen, dass es die Neugier der Zuhörer weckt, mehr über diesen außergewöhnlichen Komponisten zu erfahren.

Fieri Consort
is an acclaimed vocal ensemble specialising in music of the 16th and 17th Centuries and formed of some of London’s most talented professional singers.

Fieri’s debut album, Tears of a Lover, was BBC Music Magazine’s choice album of the month in 2017, and The Unknown Traveller was released in September 2018 as the ensemble’s second album.

Fieri prides itself in presenting a union of individual soloistic voices, all equally artistically and musically responsible. Fieri’s recordings have been featured on radio channels including BBC Radio 3 (on which the ensemble has also performed live) and Australia’s Classic FM, and the ensemble won the Cambridge Prize in the York Early Music Festival 2017 International Young Artist Competition.

Camerata Öresund
Baroque ensemble Camerata Øresund and their musical director / violinist Peter Spissky explore the musical world of composer, instrumentalist, and patron of the arts, Wilhelmine von Bayreuth (1709–1758). The recording brings to light works by Wilhelmine herself and musicians from within her circle, as we rediscover several long-forgotten pieces. Wilhelmine’s entrepreneurial spirit, intellect, talent, and deep love of music and the arts remain an enduring source of inspiration. This album is a tribute to the life and legacy of this remarkable woman of the arts, revealing vibrant musical colours and styles in these concertos, dances, and arias.
