Turn Off the Light is the second studio album by German singer Kim Petras. It was released on 1 October 2019 through her own label, BunHead. The compilation album was originally announced as the EP Turn Off the Light, Vol. 2 – the sequel to Petras' 2018 EP Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1 – although it was ultimately released as a full-length compilation album comprising the eight songs from the first volume and nine new songs recorded for the second volume.

Turn Off the Light received positive reviews from music critics, who praised its production, lyricism, themes and Petras' vocal performance. On October 23, 2020, Petras announced that she would be releasing a third and final Turn Off the Light volume in October 2021. She shared that the reason for the release date was her desire to perform the songs live for her fans upon release, something she couldn't do if it was released in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. "I can't do it if I can't perform it live for you guys, immediately. I have to. It needs to be fresh, and there's a bunch of stuff I want to do to make it really epic." However, to hold fans over until 2021, she released the single "Party Till I Die," immediately following the announcement of the third installment.

"This album is just a lot of fun, and it accomplishes exactly what it aimed to do – an album full of spooky Halloween pop that would probably make a nice addition to a spooky costume party. Zunächst mit nur ein paar veröffentlichten Singles, hat sich die 27-jährige Kölnerin Kim Petras über die sozialen Netzwerke als neuer Star des Pop empfohlen, die mittlerweile international von sich reden macht. Ihre Songs, darunter die Spotify-Hits ›I Don't Want It All‹, ›Hills‹, ›Faded‹ und ›Heart to Break‹, kommen jeweils auf mehrere Millionen Streams – was Spotify dazu bewog, sie als einen von vier Künstlern zum globalen ›RISE Artist‹ für das Jahr 2018 zu bestimmen. Nach zwei restlos ausverkauften Shows diesen September in Berlin und Köln kommt Kim Petras, die derzeit in Los Angeles lebt, zwischen dem 26. Januar und dem 1. Februar 2020 erneut für drei Konzerte nach Deutschland.

Schon im Teenageralter begann Kim Petras erste eigene Musikvideos im Internet hochzuladen. Ab 2008 erschienen neben zahlreichen Videos mit Coverversionen auch ihre ersten eigenen Songs. Es folgte 2011, in Eigenregie produziert und digital veröffentlicht, die EP ›One Piece of Tape‹.

Als Inspirationsquellen dienten ihr der 1990er- und 2000er-Pop von Künstlern wie den Spice Girls, Britney Spears und Christina Aguilera sowie der Italo-Disco-Sound der 80er oder der opulente Rock von Queen. Inzwischen finden sich in ihrem Sound auch Elemente aus R'n'B, Electro, Dance und Hip-Hop.

Sechs Jahre nach der ersten EP meldete sie sich 2017 mit neuer Musik zurück: Ihre erste nunmehr offizielle Single hieß ›I Don't Want It All‹, die unmittelbar nach dem digitalen Release bis an die Spitze der Spotify Global Viral Charts schoss und aktuell über 22 Millionen Spotify- Streams zählt. Schon da begannen sich die internationalen Medien für Kim Petras zu interessieren und schrieben über sie Lobpreisungen wie ›die neue Prinzessin des Pop‹ (abc NEWS) oder ›sie ist dieser eine Star, für den nur ein Weg übrig bleibt: die Pop-Charts der kommenden Jahre zu dominieren‹ (PAPER Magazine).

Im Zuge einer Kooperation mit Spotify erschienen fünf weitere Songs sowie die EP ›Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1‹, die allesamt zu großen Erfolgen in der Netzwelt avancierten. Neben Cameo- Gesangsauftritten für Songs von Charli XCX, arbeitete Petras im Anschluss zusammen mit dem Produzenten Dr. Luke an der Fertigstellung ihres ersten Longplayers, aus welchem schließlich zwei wurden: Zunächst das Debütalbum ›Clarity‹, welches im Juni dieses Jahres sein Release feierte, gefolgt von dem am 1. Oktober veröffentlichten ›Turn Off the Light‹, das eine Erweiterung der gleichnamigen EP darstellt. Seither weiß die ganze Welt über die bezaubernde Kölnerin Bescheid.
